Microsoft Team Foundation Server
TFS is a powerful Microsoft offering for source control, data collection, reporting, and project tracking, and is intended for collaboration software development projects.
Long Cloud Technologies know that your clients want to be involved in the development process. TFS easily allows your clients to gain access to their project, track work items and enter and track bugs as they find them.
TFS works in a three-tier architecture: the client tier, the application tier and the data tier. The client tier is used for creating and managing projects and accessing the items that are stored and managed for a project. TFS exposes web services which client applications such as Visual Studio Team System can use for data storage back end or dedicated TFS management applications like the included Team Foundation Client.
The application layer also includes a web portal and a document repository facilitated by Windows SharePoint Services. The web portal acts as the central point of communication for projects managed by TFS. The document repository is used for both project items and the revisions tracked, as well as for aggregated data and generated reports.
The data layer, provides the persistent data storage services for the document repository. The data tier and application tier can exists on different physical or virtual servers as well, provided they are running Windows Server 2003 or better.
Most activity in TFS revolves around a work item. Work Items are a single unit of work which needs to be completed, and can be allocated to any member of the 'team', along with bugs that need fixing.
Long Cloud Technologies run a TFS system on their servers, to allow for team production and ease of peer programming and with the new Microsoft TFS Web Interface running on our servers, we are able to allow our clients access so they can see their project growing as it is being developed.
