Just got done checking The Morning Brew (an absolutely necessary blog to follow on a daily basis if you are a developer geek like myself), and followed the article about “Myth Busting” misconceptions about VS, which led me to The Visual Studio Myth Busting Matrix (Silverlight required) and this Myth about Linq To Sql.

So according to this it wasn’t dead, and in fact had some work done on it in the new framework.  Here is a link to New Things Going on in LinqToSql .Net 4.0.  And now that I have found out from the Entity framework group’s blog that the new version of Entities WON’T make it out with the new 4.0 release, I can continue to feel good about using LinqToSql.
