So, yesterday I decided to get and install all the live framework tools (to go along with my mesh beta and azure beta work), was in the process of downloading the items for that, when I saw that ASP.NET MVC 1.0 RTW (that’s a new MS TLA, for Release To Web, instead of Release To Manufacturers), and I said Whoo Hooo, and decided to download it and get all my stuff up to snuff.
And what a hassle that has been. It reminds me of the first time I tried to install the LAMP framework on my PC. While that was horribly painful, it was understandable, since so much if it came from different companies; Microsoft doesn’t have that excuse. Oh mighty Gu-ness please help this lowly one and your other unworthy acolytes and grant us the boon of a central coordination of tool installation for developers.
Maybe a DevelopersUpdate.microsoft.com (like the WindowsUpdate.microsoft.com), that allows us to select development package targets (say I want Azure and MVC), and it will make sure that I have all the latest hotfixes, service packs, latest / greatest for me (instead of me having to follow bejillions of links from one update to the next hotfix to the next installation error “you need this first”.
We pray in your name for a lightening of our burden.
